Types of qualifications include Construction Awards and National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s) / Scottish Vocational Qualifications.

Foundation Intermediate and Advanced construction awards are qualifications for craft occupations that you can complete part time or full time. They do not include proof of work undertaken on site.

NVQs focus on practical skills and knowledge - meaning you are assessed on what you can do on the job, rather than what you can write in an exam. They're developed by people who work in the building and construction industry, and are a great way to develop your skills, or to boost your career by developing new skills and knowledge. Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) work in a very similar way and are the preferred system in Scotland.
